![]() Dallas is just one of five NFL teams whose leading tackler is a safety (Donovan Wilson). Without winning in the trenches, the linebackers can get washed out, causing the defense to be more susceptible to big runs. One of the problems with the Cowboys' rushing defense is that they lose at the point of attack and allow blockers to climb into the second level and take out the linebackers. ![]() That includes last year and their historically bad 2020 season. In fact, if you look at the past 20 seasons of the Cowboys, you’d find that their two worst years in terms of rushing attempts allowed have come in the past three seasons. ![]() Teams don’t want to be in situations where the Cowboys' pass rush can just pin their ears back and attack them, so they counter this as much as they can by running early and often against them. As fantastic as this team has been on defense (first in takeaways, third in sacks, and fifth in points allowed), they are just average at defending the run, so opposing teams wisely try to exploit the weaker part of their defense. Teams that can’t defend the run experience higher volumes of rushing attempts against them.īut again, the Cowboys aren’t terrible at stopping the run. ![]() The Seattle Seahawks were the only team who faced more rushing attempts that didn’t have a losing record last year however, their defense did surrender the third-most rushing yards in the league last season. Opposing teams ran against Dallas an average of 29.2 times per game last season, which is seventh-most in the NFL. The problem is that teams are frequently running against them. They allow 4.4 yards per play, which ranks them right smack in the middle of the league. On a per-play basis, they aren’t terrible. You see, the Cowboys have what you might call a “run defense” problem. In fact, you could even say that this team had a plan, and they executed it quite well. Instead, they continued to select players that will help their football team. But the Cowboys stayed true to form and didn’t force picks. Considering this team already had one of the best defensive units in the league combined with the struggles they had at times on offense, it seemed a little bit off-script to go that direction. The road helmets would have had the new, more predatory-looking Seahawk logo and navy blue facemask, but on a silver helmet-ostensibly an homage to the club's original lid from 1976-2011.The Dallas Cowboys surprised everyone by picking defensive players with three of their first four draft picks. The Seahawks proposed wearing two different helmets as part of their 2002 uniform alterations, but the NFL wouldn't allow it. The new logo also appeared to be more aggressive, with a more forward-arching, lime green eye, and a more hooked beak.Īs with the original silver Seahawk helmet, the logo wrapped around to the back of the helmet on either side, but was separate in the middle. A new Seahawks wordmark was also developed, and was added in navy blue on the back bumper. The totemic Seahawk logo was also redone in the team's new colors, with a lighter "Seahawks Blue" replacing the original kelly green. The Seahawks underwent a radical uniform redesign in 2002 as they prepared to move back to the NFC West and into their new outdoor stadium.Ĭhief among those changes was a new navy blue helmet with a dark navy blue facemask. A 75th NFL anniversary logo was worn on both the home and road jerseys in 1994, while the Seahawks also wore their original uniforms at certain points that season (minus the gray facemasks.)Ī commemorative Seahawks 25th anniversary patch was worn on both jerseys during the 2000 season. The original all-blue yoke or collar around the neck was replaced by a blue-white-green-white-green-white-blue striping sequence, and an NFL shield was also added below the collar in 1991.Ī 10th anniversary Seahawks logo was added to the Seahawks pants for the 1985 season, according to Seahawks Uni History. The cleats were white, while the original white socks with alternating color stripes were replaced by blue socks that shifted to white further down the leg. The pants remained the same as before, gray with green-white-blue-white-green vertical stripes. The white TV numbers on the blue home jerseys were moved to the shoulders, and the stripes were replaced by the same Seahawk head logo featured on the helmet. The most striking change to the Seahawks jersey in 1983 came on the sleeves.
